Science Literacy Focus: K-W-H-LA K-W-H-L chart is very similar to the familiar K-W-L chart in which students list what they know and what they want to know prior to reading. After reading, students complete the final column, indicating what they have learned. The K-W-H-L infuses a science-based focus that has students list HOW they will find out what they will know.
This strategy is useful for student-directed inquiries often found in science classrooms centered around processes, labs, and experiments. |

Thinking Maps
These graphic organizers are consistent visual patterns linked directly to eight specific thought processes. By visualizing thinking, students can create images of abstract thoughts to help guide and direct their developing understanding. These patterns help all students reach higher levels of critical and creative thinking.
